It’s the most wonderful time of the year. As Christmas Day comes nearer is it important to make sure your home is electrically safe as you are getting ready for the holiday. Here are a few things to keep an eye out for.

Check your strands of lights for frayed cords, broken blubs or plugs. Christmas lights can generate heat so it is best never leave them unattended. LED lights can reduce your risk of a fire hazard and improve the electrical efficiency of your tree. Saving you some money during this time of year

As the weather gets colder it is nice to have some space heaters on these cold winter Calgary nights. Space heaters need to be used with caution. They should never be left attended and pointed away from walls or furniture. It is also important to make sure you are not overloading the circuit.
Outdoors lights
When it comes to outdoor lights safety make sure you have enough electrical outlets and you only use a ground fault outlet. You do not want to overload your circuits and your lights will also most likely be exposed to moisture which makes the ground fault breaker very important in keeping you safe. Also once the Christmas season is over it is best to take the lights down as the weather can deteriorate the wires which is risking an electrical fire for previous years.
